I fundamentally disagree with the idea that I am able to read a book differently because I am a white male with “privilege”. [racism, privilege denying]

You are all capable of being adults and separating a work of fiction from the person writing it. This is not a “white male” thing. This is a “being human” thing.

Being offended and pissy about the racism in the works of a man who died 70 fucking years ago just makes you look petty.

No, some people can’t read a book where POC are treated terrible and say, “Oh hey this is just a work of fiction, no need to be upset” when they’re still treated terrible today. It’s totally acceptable to not be able to appreciate Lovecraft because the racism permeates too deepy in his writing. You can still like his books, but it’s not cool to tell someone they are being “petty” for not wanting to read it due to racism.

aaaand now I am unfollowing you. :)

Dear OP,

Some people fundamentally disagree with evolution. That doesn’t make it any less true.

Your inability to agree with facts does not make them false.

(Ironically, your inability to acknowledge your privilege is actually a facet of your privilege.)
